Jaga i Cykor w Krakowie | Yaga and Skittish in Krakow

Dziś drugi wpis ze zdjęciami z Krakowa. Tym razem o naszym - Młodej (@blueeyedmary.dolls) i moim - małym projekcie, który udało nam się zrealizować.

Jakiś czas temu Młoda przeczytała książkę "Jaga i dom na orlich nogach", której autorem jest Maciej Rożen. Jest to pierwsza część (z jak na razie trzech, ale liczymy na więcej) przygód Jagi Kurzejstopki, młodej wiedźmy. Jest córką hodowcy chat na kurzych nogach i jej najlepszym przyjacielem jest właśnie mała chatka o imieniu Cykor. Imię to jest nadane mu na opak, bo jest to bardzo dzielny domek, który broni swojej właścicielki. Jaga i Cykor przeżywają przygody, które wciągają nie tylko najmłodszych czytelników - przesłuchałam jak na razie dwa tomy powieści, a choć jestem "nieco" starszą czytelniczką, to wcale się nie nudziłam. Bardzo podoba mi się sposób, w jaki są przedstawione wszystkie postacie, a także to, że choć powieść jest przeznaczona dla młodszych odbiorców, to nie jest infantylna. Sama jestem niezmiernie ciekawa co dalej spotka Jagę, Cykora, ich przyjaciół, a także Jana Twardowskiego. Polecam Wam tą książkę gorąco.

Ale do brzegu. Historia Jagi awansowała na pierwsze miejsce ulubionych książek mojej Córy i narodził się pomysł stworzenia postaci w wersji namacalnej, choć miniaturowej. A że zbiegło się to z informacją o organizowanym spotkaniu w Krakowie - miałyśmy sporą motywację, aby zdążyć przed wyjazdem. Bo to właśnie m.in. w Krakowie rozgrywa się akcja książki.

Today is the second entry with photos from Krakow. This time about our - my Daughter's (@blueeyedmary.dolls) and mine - small project that we managed to implement.

Some time ago, my Daughter read the book "Yaga and the House on Eagle's Legs" by Maciej Rożen. This is the first part (of three so far, but we are counting on more) of the adventures of Yaga Kurzastopka (Chickenfoot), a young witch. She is the daughter of a breeder of huts with chicken legs and her best friend is a little hut named Cykor. "Cykor" means "chicken", "sissy" and so on - so someone fearful, but I coudn't find the English word without such a negative meaning. "Cykor" in Polish isn't that pejorative. What's more this name is given to him backwards, because he is a very brave little house that defends his owner. With the help of English-speaking friends, I decided to translate it into Skittish. I think that's the best word, quite gentle and caressing. Yaga and Skittish experience adventures that engage not only the youngest readers - so far I have listened to two volumes of the novel, and although I'm a "slightly" older reader, I was not bored at all. I really like the way all the characters are presented and the fact that although the novel is intended for a younger audience, it is not childish. I'm extremely curious about what will happen next to Yaga, Skittish, their friends, and Jan Twardowski. I highly recommend this book to you.

But to the shore. Yaga's story rose to the top of my Daughter's favorite books and the idea of ​​creating a tangible, although miniature, version of the character was born. And since it coincided with the information about the organized meeting in Krakow, we had a lot of motivation to make it before the departure. Because, among others, the action of the book takes place in Krakow.

Zaczęłyśmy od zrobienia Jagi. Nasz wybór padł na lalkę z serii Harry'ego Pottera, Hermionę - pasowała nam "wiekiem" i drobną posturą. Konieczny był reroot, ponieważ książkowa Jaga ma długi blond warkocz. 

We started by making Yaga. Our choice was a doll from the Harry Potter series, Hermione - she matched our requirements about "age" and petite stature. A reroot was necessary because Yaga from the book has a long blonde braid.

Zdążyłam chyba tylko dlatego, że reroot robiłam dosyć skąpo - normalnie schodzi mi o wiele, wiele dłużej. Gęsto wszyłam jedynie pierwszą linię włosów i przedziałek, a całą resztę głowy co 3-4 dziurkę. Było to konieczne, aby włosów nie było za dużo i żeby warkocz wyglądał naturalnie.

I think I only managed to make it because I did the reroot quite sparingly - normally it takes me much, much longer. I densely sewed only the first hairline and parting, and the rest of the head every 3-4 holes. This was necessary to ensure that there was not too much hair and that the braid looked natural.

Przemalowałam jej też oczy na zielono, żeby pasowały do opisu głównej bohaterki powieści. Dostała ogrodniczki, sakiewkę i różdżkę. Muszę znaleźć jej jeszcze lepsze trzewiki, ale na te wielkie stopy nie jest łatwo.

I also painted her eyes green to match the description of the novel's main character. She was given dungarees, a purse and a wand. I need to find her even better shoes, but it's not easy for those big feet.

Drugim etapem projektu była chatka na orlich nogach. Zaczęłam od szkicu, żeby określić jakiej wielkości ma być domek, a także jakie powinny być jego proporcje.

The second stage of the project was the eagle-legged hut. I started with a sketch to determine what size the house should be and what its proportions should be.

Bazę zrobiłam z grubego kartonu oraz tektury introligatorskiej. Młoda zajęła się oklejeniem krawędzi skrawkami papieru (zastosowałyśmy technikę, której używałam w Domu Zielarki), aby konstrukcja była wytrzymała.

I made the base from thick cardboard and bookbinding cardboard. My Daughter glued the edges with scraps of paper (we used the technique I used at the Herbalist's Cottage) to make the structure durable.

W tym czasie ja wzięłam się za orle nogi. Bazę zrobiłam z aluminiowego drutu i folii.

Meanwhile, I started working on the eagle legs. I made the base from aluminum wire and foil.

Następnie ulepiłam nogi z Milliputa - masy samoutwardzalnej. I tutaj muszę się trochę pochwalić, bo sama byłam zaskoczona, jak fajnie wyszły. Nie spodziewałam się, że uda mi się uzyskać taki efekt. xD

Z tej samej masy zrobiłam też komin.

Then I made the legs from Milliput - a self-hardening clay. And here I have to brag a little, because I was surprised how nice they turned out. I didn't expect to achieve such an effect. xD

I also made a chimney from the same clay.

Jak się robi na cztery ręce, to robota idzie naprawdę sprawnie. Młoda zajęła się naklejaniem gontu.

If you do it with four hands, the job goes really smoothly. My Daughter was gluing the shingle.

A ja oklejałam drewnem domek.

And I covered the house with wood.

Efekt końcowy prac stolarskich wyszedł naprawdę fajnie. Co prawda okupiłam go konkretną raną (nie będę Wam dokładnie opisywać, dość powiedzieć, że omsknęły mi się bardzo ostre nożyce...), ale cóż. Bywa.

Podmurówkę zrobiłam z "kamieni" wyciętych z wytłoczek na jajka.

The end result of the carpentry work turned out really nice. It's true that I paid for it with a quite big wound (I won't describe it in detail, suffice it to say that I just had an accident with very sharp scissors...), but oh well. It happens.

I made the foundation from "stones" cut from egg cartons.

Córa pomalowała później dach i daszek nad przybudówką farbami akrylowymi, a ja pomalowałam domek bejcą. Do orlich nóżek użyłam farb akrylowych, całość zabezpieczyłam lakierem w sprayu, a same szpony pociągnęłam bezbarwnym lakierem do paznokci. Nie mam zdjęć z poszczególnych etapów malowania, ponieważ (jak zwykle) robiłam wszystko na ostatnią chwilę i skończyłam malowanie i klejenie piór o 2 w nocy na dzień przed wyjazdem do Krakowa. Na styk. 

Kolor piór wybrała Młoda. Do ich przyklejenia użyłam kleju typu wikol. Na drzwiach w miejscu klamki przykleiłam metalową przekładkę. Do środka włożyłyśmy lampki led (20 lampek na druciku), żeby domek mógł świecić.

My Daughter later painted the roof and the canopy over the extension with acrylic paints, and I painted the house with stain. I used acrylic paints for the eagle legs, secured the whole thing with spray varnish, and painted the talons themselves with colorless nail polish. I don't have photos of the individual stages of painting because (as usual) I did everything at the last minute and finished painting and gluing the feathers at 2 a.m. the day before leaving for Krakow. Of course...

The color of the feathers was chosen by my Daughter. I used wood glue to glue them. I glued a metal spacer on the door in place of the handle. We put LED lights inside (20 lights on a wire) so that the house could glow.

Po sobotnim spotkaniu lalkowym poszłyśmy we dwie na sesję zdjęciową. Najważniejszym punktem, który koniecznie musiałyśmy zaliczyć był pomnik Mickiewicza na Rynku. Nie mogłyśmy odtworzyć dokładnie sceny z powieści, gdy to Jaga i Cykor pojawiają się na samej górze pomnika - pomijając brak moich chęci do wspinania się na niego niespecjalnie miałam ochotę tłumaczyć się przed strażnikami miejskimi... xD Ale mamy zdjęcia z pomnikiem w tle. :)

After Saturday's dollmeet, the two of us went to a photo session. The most important point that we had to visit was the Mickiewicz monument in the Market Square. We couldn't exactly recreate the scene from the novel when Yaga and Skittish appear at the very top of the monument - apart from my lack of desire to climb it, I didn't particularly feel like explaining myself to the city guards... xD But we have photos with the monument in the background. :)

Wszystko pod czujnym okiem Rycerzy (kto przeczyta książkę, będzie wiedział o co chodzi ;)).

Everything under the watchful eye of the Knights (those who read the book will know what I'm talking about ;)).

Wcześniej zrobiłyśmy też kilka zdjęć podczas wizyty na Wawelu. Tutaj Jaga z chatką wzbudziła o wiele większe zainteresowanie i kilka osób robiło jej zdjęcia. :)

Earlier, we also took a few photos during our visit to Wawel. Here,Yaga with her hut aroused much more interest and several people took photos of her. :)

Smoki również występują w książce, z Dragonisem Wawelskim na czele, obowiązkowym punktem programu była więc wizyta w Smoczej Jamie.

Dragons also appear in the book, with Dragonis Wawelski at the forefront, so a visit to the Dragon's Den was a must-see. According to the legend the dragon was living there. ;)

I tu tylko powiem, że ciężko było mi opuścić ową Smoczą Jamę, bo było w niej przyjemniej niż w klimatyzowanym pomieszczeniu... Smok czy nie smok - jakoś bym się z gadziną dogadała (mam w końcu za sobą wszystkie części "Jak wytresować smoka" i połowę sezonów "Smoczych jeźdźców" xD). Ale nie było wyjścia, musiałyśmy podążyć w stronę stacji kolejowej i zdążyć na pociąg do domu...

And here I will just say that it was hard for me to leave that Dragon's Den, because it was nicer there than in an air-conditioned room... Dragon or no dragon - I would somehow get along with the reptile (after all, I have finished all the parts of "How to Train Your Dragon" and half of the seasons of "Dragon Riders" xD). But there was no choice, we had to go towards the train station and catch the train home...

I to koniec spaceru z Jagą i jej dzielną chatką. Wróciłyśmy do domu szczęśliwe, po dniu pełnym wrażeń. Mam nadzieję, że fotorelacja Wam się podobała.

And that's the end of the walk with Yaga and her brave hut. We returned home happy, after a day full of excitement. I hope you liked the photo report.
